Torrr, it took me less than 5 minutes to cancel my reservations at the Eastglenn motel and book a new room at the super 8.. not a big deal really.

Would you rather they didn't change the venue Fragapalooza as an entity goes bankrupt, none of the 256 or whatever paid people get their money back, and no more frag ever... or would you prefer a change in venue....

when I heard the rumors I has really hoping for option #2.. I dunno maybe that's just me.. i don't think it's shady at all it's being quite responsible... you missed the irc chat with the head guys.. they pulled out a phone book and started calling... they even called or were about to call people with warehouses for sale to see if they would rent them out... once they found no viable options in Edmonton they started looking for other close venues...it could be worse... could be leduc, devon, wetaskiwin..

Torr, do you think the frag staff just changed the venue for shits'n'giggles?

They had reasons for them, please try to see beyond your own needs for the greater good.

Look, while I fully admit that I'm not happy that they announced this 2 weeks before the event, I'm not going to bitch and complain. Do you think it's really ideal for the staff to be changing the venue so close to the event either? I cannot imagine the monumental task they are undertaking after planning for months to hold the event at one venue, then basically having to change it so close to the event.

Is driving to Fort Sasktatchewan a pain in the ass? A little bit. It looks to be about a 20 min drive out of the city. And yes, for some people that will cause difficulties. But I'd rather have the minor inconvenience of having a different venue to go to, than have the major inconvenience of my only real holiday plans for the summer getting cancelled.

The staff need to do what is in the best interests of the event, which means they have to cater to the majority. I'm sure they are fully aware that not everyone would be happy with this change. If that cuts the numbers down from 500 to 450 for the event, that's a lot better than cutting it down from 500 to 0 because the event gets cancelled.

If people are going to have such a selfish attitude towards this, don't come. I know I don't want you there if all you're going to do is bitch about the change, and I'm not even the one that's going to have to deal with you. I'm going to show up, and have just as good a time at the DOW center than I would have had at the agricom.

I don't get all the hate for Fort Saskatchewan. It's not some little town of 1,000 people where there is jack all there. The town is a fairly decent size, and has most any amenity you'll need for the weekend. Thanks to it being a small town, it'll also be easier to get around. I'm sure it'll be safer for foot traffic then the area around the Agricom.

If transport is a huge deal for you after hours, just talk to me, or anyone else with a car. If we are awake, I am sure we'll be more than happy to give you a lift to where you need to go in exchange for a little gas money. In case you haven't been to Fraga before, all of us are kind, helping, community driven individuals.

Thank you Frag staff:

Thank you for trying to heard cats, by making a large group of people not only happy but satisfied with our time at frag.

Thank you for having thick skin, you put up with a lot of people complaing over your hard work.

Thank you for the use of your time, having to setup, install, and direct the volume...of...well..crap that goes on.

Thank you for your pateince, to not just throw in the towel after many years of having to deal with people who feel intitled to what ever they want because they paid 95 bucks to come.

Thank you for a great experince year after year after year.

To everyone else, I alwyas say put your money where your mouth is, VOLUNTEER.

Hey, I'm very pleased with the change. I look forward to Frag every year now, and I accept that there is a LOT of work and planning to do to get Frag up and running ever year. I can't imagine being able to do all that work alone, or even with a large group, Knowing what kind of complaining there will be no matter what choice they make.
There were people who complained about the move from Mayfield, as it was 'close to them and now they'd have to drive far away' to get to the Agricom, And there were so many people who complained about not knowing the exact venue six months before hand for last year. We knew when we knew.
I personally will go where I need to be to get to Frag, provided it's not like, Calgary, and even then ROAD TRIP! It's a matter of politeness and acceptance that LIFE CHANGES, shit happens, and ya just have to roll with it some times.
Yeah, some people might have to change their hotel plans, there are hotels there. Some people might have to drive farther, well it sucks, but it means Frag makes it another year.
The Frag staff has graciously provided for us the amenities we need year after year, Tent City, close hotels, food nearby and now the ability to keep our Bawls cold! I'd prefer think of this venue change as.. An Inconvenient Improvement.

And to the Frag Staff: Thank you. Thank you for putting up with whining about the change, and dealing with it in a mature and responsible manner, Thank you for providing us with entertainment and gaming and community for four days every year, Thank you for dealing with all whining responsibly (Specifically the CS tourney issue) and in an intelligent manner, with thoughts of compromise and fairness.
Do I play CS? No.
Do I appreciate SCREAMING in the middle of the morning (like, 4-8 am) BOOM HEADSHOT and other such overused things? No.
But I do appreciate the work that goes into Frag, and I appreciate that even the CS players want to come to Frag to play 'their' game.

This is a gamer's event. It takes effort to run it and keep it running.

So again, Frag Staff and Volunteers, Thank you for your hard work. We appreciate it.

People paid for the event, with the obvious understanding it would be held at the advertised venue. You are changing the venue to a different city that will most likely effect many people's traveling plans and also their accommodation if they're arriving from somewhere aside from Edmonton. Its pretty shady to make a major change of the venue, and as you made no mention of it, probably not offer refunds on prepaid registrants.

it IS pretty shady. the respectable thing to do would have been to live up to your promises, lose the money you would have lost, and plan better for next year.

i would suggest that you run the tournaments only over friday-saturday so that those who are forced to be stranded in fort saskatchewan only need to be so for one night. personally, when i attend fraga, i'm not there all hours all days. i like to come and go, take the LRT home to sleep, honour other plans with friends i have on that weekend, and get work done in between. i'm not asking to have my personal needs met, but i'm just pointing out there may be other people who have a similar approach to the event. then again, maybe there aren't people with anything else to do for 4 days. we are gamers after all.

If fragapalooza stayed at Northlands, the lost money would come out of the admins pockets, and there wouldn't BE an event next year.
