Unfortunately there is no way we can make everyone happy. There is always going to be something that doesn't work perfectly for one person or another.

The new venue offers us TONS of stuff we were unable to have at the Agricom. Do you want to have outside food? Agricom said no. How about a cooler for your cold drinks? Agricom said no. The DOW Centre is allowing all this. With the reduction in attendance this year, we couldn't use all the space in the Agricom. We have moved to a venue that will be incredible for Fragapalooza and its attendees.

Please try and think about some of the positive aspects of this move before taking it personally. There is so much that is better about the new facility that it will be worth any inconvenience you may personally endure.

With the change in venue, it will be even more important for those of you with extra room to offer rides to those who need it. Please post in the Transportation forum if you NEED a ride, or if you have extra room and can OFFER a ride. Your fellow fraggers will appreciate it!

I like how Fraga moved it right out of the city, this really pisses me off... I was all happy it was at north lands i was going to walk there but now i have to find a ride.... witch is going to be hard Plus EST stops running at 2 am K thanks.. Why dont you just move it to Calgary next year... and say the hell with Edmonton... Its not like i look forward to this all year..

It was an aggravating issue for us as well, however I'm sure you will agree that the advantages of the new venue far outweigh the old one.

Post up in the transportation section.. there's a chance somebody will help.

Sphincter... But I don't pay for movies :P (even in a theatre, I order those gift things and there's always spares i get :P )

BUt for me this year:
Frag $85 x3 (or whatever it was)
Hotel $667 (deluxe room with jacuzzi)
T-shirts $whatever
Parking $12 x2 (I know we can get it back, but meh)
= still cheaper than mayfield

heh it's a time to get away from the day to day crap.. and I'm not even a gamer

*edit*

Heh this thread is moving fast a couple posts in the time it took me to type :P

You are too modest Drown. I don't know how many hours all the staff, volunteers and people put into finding a place that meets Frag's very specific requirements. So many venues and options we considered and researched, that met both our budget and event restrictions.

And then to find a venue with so much to offer... was just well... you get the point.

Another thing was, the agricom wanted $12 per day this year instead of the $12 for 4 days last year or the $0 at the new venue.

The drive to fort Sask is a pretty easy one really, for most parts of the city you head east out into the country along whitemud, sherwood park freeway until you hit hiway 21, head north, and your there.

I am rather exicited about the new place, there will be NO food restrictions, that is sooo important. nobody making you feel guilty for eating and sleeping they way you choose too.

Again, the price thing again, yes 85$ sounds like alot, but if you really think it through its simply a very cheap way to spend 4 days, and this year, nobody will be pushing over priced goods and services on you.

Obviously if your taking the bus, you got some choices to make, 1, get a car :) but one can also consider sleeping at the event or getting some balls and pay/bum a ride as needed

The reason the admission fee is so expensive is that Fraga isn't a corporate run event , it's a grass-roots community event.

QuakeCon is huge, and free. You know why? Because it's paid for by id. Fraga is run by gamers, paid for by gamers, and made for gamers. The staff try their best every year, in the face of overwhelming criticism from a rather . . . vocal community, to put on an event that'll satisfy the wants of all comers. They've done the best with what they could do, and have put on some wonderful events in the past

Attendance is down for LAN parties all across the board, thanks to the sluggish economy. People don't want to make extra expenditures or travel too far. Since Edmonton is admittedly a fairly isolated large city, this is a rather large hindrance to us. With attendance numbers down, there's no way that the Agricom would be affordable even with everyone on the who's coming list paying. In the end, it seems like IMO it was either what we got or no Fragapalooza at all.

Let's look at this year as a brand building year for Fragapalooza. The economy is at least starting to bounce back in Canada. I'm bringing the entire crew from Futurelooks.com and we have some awesome things planned. We are also going to be involving the Fraga community a lot.

I encourage each and every one of you to get the word out as best you can about this event. Let's see if we can squeeze a few more registrations in this year, and next year let's try to break some attendance records.

Good job to the Fraga staff! Three cheers and so on.

Then you also have the "it can't be next door to everybody either"

I mean I'm driving in 100+miles, my wife is working Wed/thur/fri and that's a good 60-70miles away she'll be driving those days. She'll be showing up thur evening, fragging, get a little sleep drive to work, repeat.

then you got the people from Calgary, Lethbridge, out of province.. mind you lethbridge is darn near out of province :P

but yeah... as stated.. if ETS really won't work for you for some reason.. do you really need to go home or show up between 2am and 6am? and cab costs to much... I'm not sure what the Fort has, but you might be able to hop a ride with somebody going for a pizza run or something

I'm driving 10.5 hrs this year to get to Fraga, so maybe that means I don't have too much sympathy... ;)

New venue will be great, it's an awesome building!, Now I don't even have to drive through the city I can take Hw 37 all the way across. As far as location of the event I wouldn't care, I attended the GP event and say for some instance FP moved there i'd still go. Second I've always made the point when I got a new job to tell my bosses I need four days off in the summer for FP and if they had a problem with it.. to bad. May sound crazy but for me, a job is a job, FP is more important. Lastly cost doesn't matter to me, unless it started getting into multiple's of 100 I'd still pay. Kudos to the FP staff! looking forward to another great event.

The new venue sounds great :D Fort Sask may be a bit further away, but it will still be worth it. I like the idea of having a booster juice and a 7-11 right near by. That takes care of any need you could have other than a sleeping spot. And if we're in a soccer field, it'd be cool if they leave the grass down ;) Might make the chair races hard, but wipe-outs wont be as painful!
