Bought a server yesterday... single xeon 5150(possibly getting another before fraga), 4gb ram (getting more), Ubuntu 12.04. its a dell precision 690. anyway, to the important stuff... im planning on hosting a 24 hour MC server at the event. need your input though, it does not matter to me what you guys want...

I have let you vote for 2 options simply because it is definitely possible to switch when there is more demand for one then the other at the event.

*if you want a particular map/seed... let me know and ill take a look at it.

** this one is tricky as i would have to manage this, what would happen is it would work like golf. you would talk to me or another person who is willing to help with this, with your list of players (up to 5, or more if the map states it) so i could set it up so only those players can get on, when you talk to me i would assign a "tee time" based on other groups playing. When the previous group is done the map you chose will be loaded and you will "tee off" you will be given a designated amount of time based on the time the map says it takes to complete plus a designated amount of time (say 20%) so if there is an adventure map that says it usually takes 60mins, I will allow 12 (20% of 60) extra minutes to finish the map. when the time has run out (done or not) the server will be stopped and the next group loaded in. if there was not other teams waiting for that slot i would not have a problem letting you finish it entirely. HOWEVER if the previous group finishes early you will be able to use their time up until the next group is ready to go. in theory it should work, if you see a glitch in my system let me know, also tell me if i dont make sense and i will re-write it. please understand that will also only be available while whoever wants to administer it besides me are awake and meanwhile normal survival/creative will resume.

Poll seems to be bugged for me (can't vote, using Chrome)

Anyway, I vote for SMP vanilla and then make the map downloadable after Fraga. Let's see what we can build in 4 days.

Personally, I'm torn between SMP vanilla and Tekkit. I only started playing Tekkit a couple weeks ago and it's a lot of fun building crazy machines but it seems to be a bit slower to get cool stuff established than SMP.

I'm sure there will be a few servers available, all I know is you'll see me on a few of 'em :)

EDIT: Also, it would be cool to set up Minecraft Overviewer so people who don't play Minecraft can scope out our map

I agree with Jigen. I host an SMP Tekkit server with a few friends, and in a few solid days you can build AMAZING factory setups. Especially if you build as a community.

The problem I forsee, and that I'm facing myself, is with MC 1.3 coming out at the beginning of August (and its new format of SSP/SMP combined) is whether or not Technic/Tekkit will have adapted for it or not, or even exist at all after that point. There is a considerable amount of controversy within the Technic community right now about the mods "stealing" other authors mods, adapting them for Technic/Tekkit/Bukkit, and not giving credit. Whether or not this is resolved by the time Frags is up, remains to be seen. Personally, I forsee myself running a Vanilla modded server with most of the core Tekkit mods (IC2, BC2/3, EE, Redpower, Railcraft, Powercraft, CC, possibly Logistics Pipes) instead.

For Fragapalooza 2012, I vote for a SMP community build, rather than round by round tournament style.

I play alot of tekkit and considering what has happened for other updates I don't think it will be updated for 1.3. Although, if anyone is running a tekkit server I would absolutely love it.

So as of now, still not certain i can make it to the event, but just in case i thought i would have a server ready(well... as ready as i can get it). i read somewhere that 1.3.1 was going to be released today(im on holidays in the US), if anyone could check if tekkit is available, i will run that. if not, i will run the most popular and second most popular choice on the poll, first place: survival (downloaded map). so please let me know on what map you guys want and ill have it ready in a non-pvp (unless you want it) environment. Second place: was survival (random map) and creative 200x200 tied, and since we already have a survival, the second map will be a 200x200 creative grid, and as far as im concerned, everyone will have almost all privelages (Worldedit, commands, etc) up to the point where someone screws it up for everyone!

FPStaff: is there a cost to put a server in the server farm?

There is not cost to put a server in the server farm, you have to be able to remote to it though (no monitors in the server farm). Also you need to have the mac address written down.

If my esx server was configured to support more stuff I'd bring it but I just got my media server up and running on it, I've done nothing else with it. Can't even think of anything I could host a server for these days. :'(

Alright sounds good, thought I had my server all set to start and open team viewer withouta problem, but when I try to start it without a moniter it decides it doesn't want to start! It enters some sort of security mode where it requires a password. With a moniter it seems to work perfect... So I'll wipe the drive and start over I guess! Man my time is gonna be tight I hope i can get all my crap done before the event!

Yeah sounds like a BIOS problem IMHO.

Tis my guess now as well, I looked at the BIOS once before briefly to see about it but I couldnt see anything, any guesses of where about it would be hiding? Im at at wifi hotspot here in sturgis... I learned something today, unless you have a Harley or you're 21. Eventually all the bikes look the same and the funny drunk idiots around, become much less funny after the third day and the three hundredth Funny drunk idiot! I'm really ready for 4 days of gaming now! Lol
