Guys...everyone is entitled to their opinion. I would just prefer it if we could all handle this with respect of that opinion.

Having said that, I don't appreciate getting slammed with those kinds of comments Chicken...the staff work extremely hard to put on an event every year, and sometimes shit happens. This year attendance was nowhere near what we were expecting. With everything else that was discussed in this thread, it was either find a new home, or cancel the event. We worked really hard to find a venue that was 1) affordable, 2) accessible, 3) acceptable. We think we found this with the DOW Centre. Now, I realize it may be inconvenient for some of you, but there is always a way to make it happen. With tent city, a nice close hotel and a beautiful facility I think this will work out really well.

Please keep the flames to a minimum before someone gets burned.

Thanks.

WELL, so things are balanced,

I will give you guys a simple thank you for resolving what was and still is a pretty stressfull situation. Some might find it hard to understand, but i am pretty sure most of us are supportive

I actually think good things will come of this

Well I took a look at Google Maps and the ETS 198 route map, if my geography skills are still with me, its to my understanding that about a 5-10 minute walk away is a little strip mall with like 10 Fast food restaurants (Wendy's, A&W, Mickey D's, etc....) so if you don't feel like paying Diner prices for decent food, how bout like almost $10-12 for 2 people instead of for 1!

I mean living on the west end of edmonton does have it's draw backs, like getting to Fort Sk, but even family helps out in these times, i mean my dad is picking me up and driving myself and a friend out for the weekend so its not all that bad!

To the people who normally bus/drive home to sleep, maybe this is the year to try out tent city or just a foamy somewhere

I can confirm there is all those fast food restaurants within walking distance, this venue has more choices for food within walking distance then Northlands and Mayfield combined. And it's a pretty safe city. Very well patrolled by the RCMP and there's a lot of nice homes. People will be pleasantly surprised when they get there, DOW chemical has done a lot of good for that city and it shows.

There's gonna be strong opinions both ways on this no matter what.

Fraga staff, you knew this would be a bitter pill to swallow for some and for the most part you are repsonding well enough. We KNOW you guys work hard, Fraga doesn't come out of a magician's hat. A little compassion never hurts though.

ALL of us have to contend with logistics. Things have changed fairly radically for me, I'm now dependant on the charity of others or I'm forking over more money than I had budgeted for. So just as Fraga found it couldn't afford the venue it wanted, I find myself having to make similar decisions without a lot of time left (hence the sense of mild panic).

I really want to attend, I really do, right now I don't know how I'm going to do it though.

I admit. First time I read the email, I thought it was April Fool's Day again.
I'd go on a rant and let you all know how I really feel about this, but that'd be wasted energy.
The air conditioning better be up to the task though.

guys guys, lemme ask you something, when was the last fragapalooza we were allowed coolers? This will be my 4th frag, and my first one where i'll be allowed to have cold drinks at my feet. This reason is enough that our new fort sask venue is better than the agricom. Coolers!

No. Being able to have a cooler at my feet isn't a good enough reason on its own to embrace this decision. A strip mall with food places within walking distance is almost good enough reason. But I paid my $100 to attend this, so I better dig out my cooler and dust it off.

Is it a Transportation issue or other reasons?

We haven't been able to have coolers for such a long time that I feel that aspect is pretty irrelevant to even bring up.

It's going to create more work for PsychoCanucks security guys. What if someones cooler leaks all over the floor (this has happened before). What if someone stashes stolen goods in one under all their food. Also, depending on how many people actually BRING a cooler, it will just add clutter to the floors in the aisles.

Even if its stored under your table, what if the guy sitting on the other side of you kicks the plug out with his Nintendo Leg action and you leak water everywhere? Possibly on the power distro/break-out box or a power strip?

I still think Coolers are a bad idea, and I also believe these were some of the reasons that they were initially disallowed in the first place (i've been attending since 1997 - seen it all, heard it all)

Allowing outside food and beverage is definitely awesome for sure. Coolers on the other, I don't think so. Just throwing that out there.

My cooler doesn't have a drain plug. I made sure of that when I bought it, because I bought it with the sole intention of using it at lan parties. Also, those enclosed liquid blocks are a good alternative to bags of ice for helping keep everything in the cooler cool.

Yea I likely won't use ice in mine, I have enough cooler packs that I should be good for most of the weekend.
